An Afternoon with Edgar Allan Poe 2009

We split into three groups and created a poem using Poe's poems, "Annabel Lee" and "A Dream within a Dream"

Here are the three poems that we created.
Poem # 1

O God! Can I not grasp That my days have been a dream;
Wind blew out of a cloud, chilling the demons down by the sea,
How few yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
I stand amid the roar of a surf tormented shore while I weep-while I weep!
For the moon never beams without bringing me one from the pitiless wave?
the stars never rise In a night, or in a day,
hope has flown away
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
Poem # 2

Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee to shut her up
With a love of a surf-tormented shore,
A wind blew out of a cloud chilling the sepulcher there by the sea
The angels in heaven above how few! Through my fingers to the deep
O God! Can I not grasp them with a tighter clasp?
Take this kiss upon the brow! Thus much let me avow-
And the stars never rise in her tomb in the sounding sea
As all men covered her and me
But we loved with a love so that her highborn kinsman came.
Poem # 3

In a Vision

In this kingdom by the sea
In a night, or in a day,
I stand amid the roar of heaven
of a surf tormented shore
while I weep-while I weep!
But we loved with a love that was more than love-
But a dream within a dream
In parting from you now,
All hope has flown away
In this kingdom by the sea; Yes that was the reason as all men know.
