Sharon A. Pruchnik earned a BA degree in English Literature from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, where she received the Claire R. Garber Award for the short story What She Wants. In July 2007, Sharon was awarded the Westmoreland Award for Short Story from the Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival for her story, Love at the Beach, which is featured in the Works in Progress Collected Works anthology of 2006. In 2006 Sharon received an honorable mention from the Pearls’ Short Fiction contest for her story, Saving Roger, and another honorable mention in The Writers’ Center of Indiana’s ‘Sins’ contest for her short story Lilac Lust. That same year her short story, Surface, was featured in Our Town Magazine. Sharon lives in Windber with her always- supportive husband, Dave, and their cat, Misty. She gathers loads of inspiration and a little pocket- cash by substitute teaching in local schools.
