Submission Guidelines
1. Prizes

2. Deadlines  

Entries must be postmarked by Saturday, May 31, 2008.  Entries postmarked after Saturday, May 31, 2008 will
not be accepted.
3. Entry fee

There is a $5.00 entry fee.
$5.00 for 1 poem
$5.00 for each story 3,000 words or less in length
Entrants can submit to both the poetry and short story contest, but each submission must be accompanied with a
$5.00 entry fee.
4. Guidelines for Short Story Contest

Stories must be original, unpublished, typed and double-spaced, and 3,000 words or less. There are no theme
restrictions, but only works of fiction will be considered. Writers' names should not appear on the stories, and
manuscripts will not be returned. Use a page numbering header with the title of the story and the page number
on the right side of each page. Copyright remains the property of the author. (We do not accept e-mailed
submissions.)

Each story should be accompanied by a cover sheet with the writer's name, complete address, e-mail address,
phone number, and title of the piece.
5. Guidelines for Poetry Contest

Maximum Length: 40 Lines per poem.  Poems must be in English; translations are not acceptable. Each poem
must be typed (single spaced) on 8 1/2" x 11" white paper on one side only, one poem per page.  For poems
longer than a page, use a page numbering header with the title of the poem and the page number on the right
side of the page.  Writers' names should not appear on the poems, and manuscripts will not be returned.
Copyright remains the property of the author. (We do not accept e-mailed submissions.)

6. Announcement of Winners

Winners will be announced at the Works In Progress Poetry Reading on Saturday, August 2, 2008, at Laurel Arts
from 7:00-9:00 p.m. All entrants will receive a letter and list of winners-either via standard mail or e-mail-by
September 1, 2008.
7. Eligibility

You must be an adult, 18 years of age or older, to enter this contest. No current member of Works in Progress
Writers’ Workshop is eligible for this contest.
